Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner up Shamcey Supsup was officially betrothed to Filipino-Chinese model/businessman Lloyd Peter Lee during a traditional Chinese engagement ceremony (Ting Hun) held last Sunday, June 16, at the Edsa Shangrila Hotel in Mandaluyong. The event coincided with the celebration of Fathers’ Day and the couple’s second anniversary.
The engagement party was attended by the couple’s respective families and closest friends, including other Binibining Pilipinas beauty queens and Miss Universe pageant placers Venus Raj and Janine Tugonon. Brazilian model Daiana Menezes finally broke her silence regarding the cryptic messages she posted in various social networking sites the past days. In an exclusive interview with Boy Abunda aired on The Buzz on Sunday, Menezes apologized for the brouhaha her social media posts created and denied allegations that she is a battered wife of outgoing Cagayan de Oro representative Jose Benjamin ‘Benjo’ Benaldo.
Last week, Menezes posted on her Twitter and Instagram accounts disturbing photos and messages that suggest she’s a victim of domestic violence. Concerned friends and followers interpreted the posts as a desperate cry for help and showed concern for the seemingly distraught model. The media also joined in the fray by reporting the incident to the public but Menezes refused to address the controversy and instead posted more alarming messages. Even the women’s rights group Gabriela and the Department of Social Welfare and Development offered help but Menezes remained evasive. Read more
Actor Richard Yap adds a new title to his resume. In the midst of the success of his daytime series Be Careful With My Heart opposite Jodi Sta. Maria, the good-looking actor is slated to cut his first solo album after signing up an exclusive recording contract with Star Records on Thursday.
According to Yap, it is one of his dreams to be a singer since he was young and that he’s thankful that it is finally becoming a reality. He added that the upcoming album will contain a mixture of covers and original songs, in English, Tagalog, and maybe one in Chinese. Read more
THE VOICE OF THE PHILIPPINES
A slew of new Kapamilya shows is slated to premier starting this weekend on ABS-CBN. First off is the highly-anticipated reality singing competition The Voice of the Philippines which will air its premier episode on Saturday, June 15 after Maalala Mo Kaya.
Dubbed as the biggest and grandest reality singing search on Philippine television, The Voice of the Philippines aims to discover the next singing sensation of the country. As the show’s title implies, it will focus more on the vocal abilities of the contestants and not on the way they look or move (dance) on stage. Read more
Teen star Julia Barretto is both excited and “pressured” over her upcoming debut as a dramatic actress on a Maalala Mo Kaya episode slated to be aired this Saturday, June 15. The young actress said that it is one of her dreams to star in an MMK episode.

Fifteen scripts from various film production companies were submitted to the screening committee of the Metro Manila Film Festival for the chance to be chosen as one of the eight official entries for the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival. During the annual film festival, which runs from the 25th of December to the first week of January, only the eight locally-produced films selected by the MMFF jurors are shown nationwide.
The submitted scripts feature some of the country’s biggest names in showbiz including Vic Sotto, Bong Revilla Jr., Jeorge Estregan Jr., Vice Ganda, Maricel Soriano, Kris Aquino, Piolo Pascual and Eugene Domingo. Read more
