Joining showbiz was far from John Lloyd Cruz's mind when he was younger. It was only out of necessity after his father's business went down that he decided to try his luck in the entertainment industry to help out his family. Now, he has become one of the most awarded and sought after young actors in the country.
Born on June 24, 1983, John Lloyd Espidol Cruz started out as a lanky member of the ABS-CBN's Star Magic Batch 5. He was also part of the teen trio, the Koolits with Baron Geisler and Marc Solis.
He was first noticed for his acting chops in the teen drama Tabing Ilog where he played Rovic, a lost soul but very responsible father, to which he received his first-ever acting award in Star Awards for TV in 2001.
Then came kay Tagal Kang Hinintay a top-rating drama series he co-starred with drama queen Lorna Tolentino. It is also where the John Lloyd Cruz-Bea Alonzo love team was first introduced. His tandem with Alonzo was so well-received that it led to a series of TV projects which include It Might Be You, Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin, and Maging Sino Ka Man and its sequel Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik.
The Drama Prince did not only showed his impeccable thespic skills on television. He also made films that were all box office winners such as My First Romance, Now That I Have You, Close to You, All About Love, Dubai, One More Chance, and Miss You Like Crazy. He was proclaimed Box Office King for two consecutive years for his role as Miggy Moreno in A Very Special Love and You Changed My Life opposite Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo. He received his very first Best Actor award for his role as a gay man in the groundbreaking film In My Life with Luis Manzano and the Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos.
John Lloyd is a mainstay of the Sunday afternoon variety program ASAP XV. He is also slated to work with Angel Locsin in Imortal and the Filipino adaptation of the Korean series Save the Last Dance for Me.
