Whitney Houston, undoubtedly one of the greatest singers of all time, was found unconscious in her room in the Beverly Hilton hotel on Saturday afternoon. She was found in the bathtub with her face underwater according to sources close to Houston.
The legendary singer was in Los Angeles to attend the pre-Grammy Awards dinner hosted by her mentor and acclaimed music producer Clive Davies on Saturday evening. According to reports, Houston's stylist, hairdresser and two bodyguards were among the people in the room at the time. They said Houston was in the bathroom for over an hour and they became worried when the singer didn't respond when they knocked at the door to tell her it's time to get ready for the event.
The female hairdresser then went in the bathroom and immediately screamed when she saw Houston's body in the tub, with her face submerged in the water and her legs up as if she had slid down the back of the bathtub. One of the bodyguards came running in and pulled her out of the tub and attempted CPR. That's when hotel security was called.
Paramedics arrived shortly thereafter, but Whitney was pronounced dead at 3:55 PM.
According to the Beverly Hills police, there were "no obvious signs of criminal intent" but investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the singer's death. Initial autopsy reports revealed that Houston did have water in her lungs when she died, but the medical examiner needs to determine exactly how much before they can rule whether she died as a result of drowning. Authorities are also waiting for toxicology results before drawing firm conclusions regarding Houston's cause of death.
